Bishkek, June 4, 2026 /Kabar/. Erlist Akunbekov, Deputy Chairman of Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, held a meeting on the construction of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan (CKU) international railway during working visit to Jalal-Abad region.
During the on-site meeting, compensation and land issues for local residents whose homes are located on the territory were discussed. Following the meeting, protocol instructions were issued. Representatives of relevant government agencies, local authorities, and the CKU joint venture participated in the meeting.
Deputy Chairman then visited the construction site of the Jalal-Abad tunnel on the railway.
After reviewing the progress of the work, Erlist Akunbekov noted that this railway is not just a transport corridor, but important strategic bridge connecting the countries of the East and West, adding that the railway under construction will become a symbol of unity and progress.
Total length of CKU railway project in Kyrgyzstan exceeds 304 km, and the total construction cost is $4.7 billion.
Construction of this railway, which is strategic and economic importance for the country, is a technically and engineeringly complex project, as it includes the construction of 50 bridges and 29 tunnels with total length of approximately 120 km. Forty percent of the entire railway will consist of tunnels and bridges.
As a reminder, the start for the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway was launched on December 27, 2024, with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev delivering addresses on the occasion of the project's launch and emphasizing its importance.
