Bishkek, June 24, 2026. /Kabar/. Bishkek and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) signed agreements to modernize the capital's district heating system.
According to the EBRD, the project is being implemented with the support of the EBRD and international partners. The total financing for the project will amount to €64 million.
The department explained that the program includes the modernization of district heating networks, pumping stations, and boiler houses, the implementation of modern control systems and energy-efficient equipment, and the use of renewable energy technologies. The project's implementation will improve the reliability of heat supply, reduce energy losses, lower pollutant emissions, and improve air quality in the capital.
The agreement was signed on June 22-23 during a meeting of mayors of partner cities in the Green Cities program, held in London.
The event brought together city leaders, representatives of international financial institutions, and the expert community to discuss sustainable urban development, infrastructure modernization, and improving the environmental sustainability of cities.
