Bishkek, May 29, 2026. /Kabar/. Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev participated in and addressed the meeting of the Group of Friends on Global Governance (GFGG) chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New York.

According to the Foreign Ministry, in his speech, Jeenbek Kulubaev noted that the modern system of international relations is undergoing profound transformation, accompanied by rising geopolitical tensions, crisis of trust, and increasing conflict. It was emphasized that ongoing armed conflicts and instability in various regions of the world are posing a serious challenge to the international system and require the consolidation of efforts by the global community. In this regard, the minister stated that the GFGG established at China's initiative, creates additional opportunities for building trust, developing cooperation, and promoting collective approaches within the UN.

According to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the minister advocated for strengthening the UN's central coordinating role, based on the principles of international law, the sovereign equality of states, mutual respect, and non-interference in internal affairs. The importance of reforming the UN Security Council by expanding the representation of countries from Asia, Africa, and Latin America was specifically noted. According to Kulubaev, it is necessary to strengthen collective decision-making mechanisms and ensure genuine inclusiveness in global processes.

The minister also informed the meeting participants of Kyrgyzstan's nomination for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2027–2028. It was noted that Kyrgyzstan views its participation in the Security Council as an opportunity to make a practical contribution to strengthening multilateral cooperation, conflict prevention, and strengthening the international community's joint efforts to combat traditional and emerging challenges and threats, including terrorism, transnational crime, cyberthreats, climate change, and epidemics. He emphasized the need to protect the interests of small, developing, mountainous, and landlocked states. In this regard, Jeenbek Kulubaev recalled that, at Kyrgyzstan's initiative, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on "Sustainable Mountain Development," declaring 2023-2027 the Five Years of Action for Mountain Regions.

Furthermore, the minister informed the meeting participants about the ongoing work to promote the cultural and humanitarian heritage of nomadic civilization and the 6th World Nomad Games, which have become a recognized international platform for intercultural dialogue, fostering mutual understanding, respect for traditions, and shared humanistic values.

As a reminder, the Group of Friends of Global Governance is an informal collaborative mechanism for UN Member States to exchange views, coordinate approaches, and develop joint positions on reforming and improving the global governance system. The initiative to establish the Group was put forward by China as part of the global governance initiative announced by Chinese President Xi Jinping in September 2025.
