Bishkek, June 8, 2026. /Kabar/. The international exhibition of Arashan sheep breed was held in Cholpon-Ata.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the event was organized by the Arashan 09 Society of Issyk-Kul region.
Farmers and specialists from various regions of the Russian Federation, including Dagestan, Ingushetia, and the North Caucasus, as well as representatives from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Moldova, participated in the exhibition. Interest in the Arashan breed continues to grow in other countries as well.
During the event, leading farmers who have made significant contributions to the development of the Arashan breed were presented with ministry awards.
The breed, officially registered in 2021, is characterized by high meat productivity, early maturity, and large weight. Currently, the Arashan sheep population in Kyrgyzstan has reached 48,000 head.
At the exhibition, issues related to the development of livestock breeding, expanding export opportunities, and strengthening breeding efforts were discussed. It was noted that a number of reforms have been implemented in recent years to support breeding farms, and the conditions for obtaining breeding farm status have been simplified.
Additionally, genomic evaluation laboratory is being built at the Kyrgyz Research Institute of animal husbandry. The $7.5 million project is scheduled to operate in 2027.
According to experts, the Arashan breed is becoming competitive brand in Kyrgyzstan's livestock industry and opens new opportunities for entering international markets.
