Kyrgyzstan and China discuss development of border checkpoints

Bishkek, April 21, 2026. /Kabar/. From April 13 to 17, employees of the State Customs Service of Kyrgyzstan and customs authorities of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China conducted a joint on-site survey of checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border. According to the customs service, the parties visited the Torugart checkpoints, as well as the Topo customs office (China) and the Kara-Bulak customs clearance point (Kyrgyzstan).

The meeting focused on cargo clearance, vehicle movement, and security clearance. They discuss digitalization, traffic management, and infrastructure modernization.

They agreed increasing the number of liaison officers, improving mechanisms for responding to traffic congestion at checkpoints, strengthening cooperation, and improving information exchange.

Kyrgyz side also reiterated its proposal to consider transitioning the Torugart checkpoint on the Chinese side to a 24-hour operation mode.
