Bishkek, May 14, 2026. /Kabar/. The Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic and JICA discussed expanding cooperation.
According to the relevant ministry, Minister Talantbek Soltobaev met with Kotaro Nishigata, Permanent Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Kyrgyzstan.
During the meeting, the minister expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan and JICA for their support in developing Kyrgyzstan's road transport infrastructure. According to him, with the support of JICA, more than 30 projects aimed at developing road and transport infrastructure have been successfully implemented in the country. These projects have made a significant contribution to improving the condition of roads, ensuring uninterrupted transport links, and enhancing passenger safety.
Talantbek Soltobaev also noted that improving the international transport corridors running through the country, as well as ensuring the safe and uninterrupted movement of passengers and cargo, are among the ministry's priority areas.
Furthermore, the minister reported that JICA had submitted a number of project proposals consistent with the disaster risk reduction and protection strategy and expressed hope for their positive consideration.
In turn, Kotaro Nishigata briefed the minister on projects currently being implemented in the country, as well as new initiatives being considered by the Japanese side.
