Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan finally settled border issue - Kulubaev

Bishkek, March 14, 2025. /Kabar /. The issue of the state border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, which remained unresolved for a long time, was settled during the state visit of the President of Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Jeenbek Kulubaev said.

According to him, the signed agreement on the state border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will soon be ratified in the Jogorku Kenesh. After that, the exchange of ratification instruments will take place, which will finally close this issue.

"The state visit of the president of Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan is, first of all, a historical event. Being neighbors, our countries naturally develop cooperation, maintain friendly relations. We are confident that the results of this visit will be very positive.

In addition to the border issue, 16 more documents were signed that will strengthen trade, economic and cultural ties between our states.

In addition, agreements were concluded in such areas as agriculture, transport, water use, education and other important sectors. This will have a significant impact on the development and strengthening of cooperation between the two countries," said Jeenbek Kulubaev.

Presidents of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov and Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon signed an agreement on the state border between the two countries on Thursday.The signing ceremony was held in Bishkek during Rahmon's state visit to Kyrgyzstan.

In addition, a ceremony was held to resume the work of two checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border. The presidents of the two countries took part in the ceremony via video link.

The border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan was closed after an armed border conflict in May 2021.
