Bishkek, June 4, 2026 /Kabar/. "We will participate in writing a new page in the history of the UN. Congratulations, compatriots!" wrote Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov on his Facebook page.
Kyrgyzstan was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027–2028. The decision was made following a vote by UN member states at a meeting at UN Headquarters in New York.
191 states participated in the election. Kyrgyzstan received 142 votes and won a landslide victory. Kyrgyzstan was competing against the Philippines, which received 49 votes.
Kyrgyzstan's official term as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council will begin on January 1, 2027, and will last until the end of 2028.
