Bishkek, May 12, 2026 /Kabar/. Today, May 12, Kyrgyzstan, along with the rest of the world, celebrates International Nurses Day.

This date coincides with the birthday of English nurse Florence Nightingale. She is known for her care of wounded soldiers during the war, saving the lives of many. Therefore, she is called the "founder of modern nursing." She was born on May 12, 1820. In honor of her work, International Nurses Day is celebrated annually on May 12.

According to the National Center for Maternal and Child Health, the nursing profession requires a high level of responsibility, dedication, and constant attention to patients. Nurses, alongside physicians, participate daily in the treatment and care of patients, providing not only medical but also psychological support.

Currently, 617 nurses work at the National Center for Maternal and Child Health. They provide patient care, monitor sanitary and hygienic conditions, consult with patients' families, and participate in the institution's social life.

The center noted that Nazira Shermatova, Deputy Director for Nursing, oversees the quality of nurses' work, compliance with discipline, sanitary standards, and the proper maintenance of medical records.

The center emphasized that the work of nurses remains a vital component of the healthcare system and thanked them for their professionalism and dedication.
