Bishkek, June 22, 2026. /Kabar/. The work on strengthening the banks of Chui River is underway in 9 large sections, with 7,200 meters of land being strengthened. Minister of Emergency Situations Kanatbek Chynybaev told Kabar.
According to him, previously work was carried out on only 3-4 sites per year, but this year, with the support of the president, the volume of work has increased significantly.
“The 2023 study revealed that there are 124 dangerous areas on Chui River. Up to 9-20 hectares of our land on Chui River are washed away by the water flow every year. The Ministry of Emergency Situations is currently carrying out relevant work to solve this problem.
If funding remains at this level, we will solve this problem in 5 years. We are setting such large goals of strategic importance. If you notice, there are no cases of large dams being washed away and settlements being flooded. Now there are local floods, and there is a need to work on them,” said Chynybaev.
He also added that the ministry is currently paying special attention to the prevention of emergency situations.
