Kyrgyzstan to build Issyk-Kul ring railway in two stages

Bishkek, June 10, 2026. /Kabar/. The development of a feasibility study (FES) for the construction of a ring railway bypassing Issyk-Kul lake continues in Kyrgyzstan. Minister of Transport and Communications Talantbek Soltobaev told media.

According to him, it is planned to determine the mechanisms for implementing the project this year.

"The construction of the railway is planned to be carried out in stages. At the first stage, the Balykchy - Cholpon-Ata section will be built, and then the Cholpon-Ata - Karakol road is planned to be built," the minister noted.

The implementation of this project will improve the transport infrastructure of the Issyk-Kul region, increase the tourist attractiveness of the region, and create additional opportunities for passenger and cargo transportation.

Today, the minister, together with representatives of the media, is visiting a number of facilities within the framework of the media project "Open Cabinet: Area of ​​Responsibility". This project provides an opportunity to learn the activities of the department and the progress of project implementation on the ground.
