Bishkek, Oct. 27, 2025 /Kabar/. President Sadyr Zhaparov stated that in two and a half years, Kyrgyzstan will completely stop the import of electricity during the winter period. The head of state announced this today during a working trip to the Jalal-Abad region, where he participated in the official launch ceremony of the Karakul hydroelectric power plant.

According to the president, the country is actively implementing large-scale energy projects aimed at achieving energy independence. In addition, after the completion of the construction of almost 40 hydroelectric power plants currently being built throughout the country, as well as the new thermal power plant in Kara-Keche, we will be able to fully cover our own electricity needs in winter. In 2.5 years we will no longer import electricity in winter. The electricity produced in the country will be sufficient for us, Zhaparov noted.

The head of state appealed to citizens to be patient in connection with the temporary electricity shortage during the winter period, emphasizing that the situation is gradually stabilizing. The president also reminded that in recent years Kyrgyzstan has been paying special attention to the development of green energy. We are creating all the conditions for investors, a stable policy, an open and fair environment, and relations based on mutual trust, he emphasized. The launch of the Karakul HPP is part of the national program to expand energy capacities and transition to sustainable electricity production based on renewable sources.
