Bishkek, June 4, 2026. /Kabar/. According to the Law on food security, if the level of food supply in the country exceeds 80 percent, it is considered to be self-sufficient. Uran Chekirbaev, head of the food security department under the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry told Kabar.
The percentage indicators of the 6 products that the country is currently self-sufficient in for January-April of this year are as follows:
- Potatoes 157.6%;
- Vegetables and garden crops 147.4%;
- Meat 72.2%;
- Milk 107.8%;
- Granulated sugar 94%;
- Eggs 79.8%.
Also, the percentages vary depending on the season.
Chekirbaev added that food security is mainly influenced by external and internal factors.
“Among them are geopolitical, macroeconomic, including inflation, rising world prices, and global warming leading to increased temperatures and degradation. The ministry is developing special programs taking into account these risks,” he said.
