Bishkek, April 8, 2026. /Kabar/. Twenty-five percent of the parallel reconstruction of hydroelectric units No. 1 and No. 2 at the Uch-Kurgan Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) has been completed, Ministry of Energy reports.
According to the ministry, the main contractor is the Chinese company CNEEC (as part of Package 2). Currently, 110 specialists are working on site.
Hydropower Unit No. 1
Specialists are installing and centralizing the runner chamber.
Concurrently, work is underway to prepare for the installation of power transformers and auxiliary equipment.
Dismantling of the hydropower unit is 100% complete.
Hydropower Unit No. 2
Cleaning and installation of new pipes is underway.
Laser cleaning of the metal surfaces of the turbine shaft and restoration of the volute are underway. The rotor is currently being prepared for pole installation.
Dismantling of the hydropower unit is 100% complete.
Reconstruction work on the station's hydraulic structures is actively ongoing. Parallel grouting is underway at the dam, and boreholes are being drilled at the corners.
The main goal of the current reconstruction is to increase electricity production, upgrade the station's equipment, and improve the operation of the country's power grid.
It is noted that at the Uch-Kurgan Hydroelectric Power Plant, following the completion of the reconstruction of hydroelectric units No. 3 and No. 4 in 2025, the station's total capacity will increase from 180 MW to 198 MW.
This year, following the completion of the reconstruction of hydroelectric units No. 1 and No. 2, the station's capacity will increase to 216 MW.
