UCLG appoints Bishkek mayor as vice president

Bishkek, June 26, 2026. /Kabar/. Bishkek Mayor Aibek Dzhunushaliev was unanimously elected vice president of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) organization at the Congress of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) on June 25 in Tangier, Morocco.

According to the Bishkek City Hall, the UCLG is the largest international organization, uniting more than 240,000 cities, municipalities, and local government associations from 140 countries. Its represents their interests globally, including close cooperation with the UN and other key international institutions.

The vice presidents serve on its governing bodies and participate in strategic decision-making on issues of sustainable urban development, digitalization, the environment, and municipal governance.

"The election of Bishkek mayor to this position is a significant achievement for the capital, confirming the city's growing international standing and expanding opportunities for cooperation with cities around the world and participation in international projects," the statement says.
