Bishkek, May 15, 2026 /Kabar/. Bishkek discuss the expansion of the National System of Obstetric Surveillance and Response (system) for severe maternal complications.
According to Health Ministry, participants discussed the results of the pilot implementation of the system in five maternity hospitals across the country, further scaling up of the system nationally, and improving rapid response mechanisms for severe obstetric complications.
Particular attention was paid to the digital platform, created based on the system of the Eastern European Institute of Reproductive Health. The platform enables real-time monitoring of critical conditions, analysis of severe maternal complications, and the timely identification of systemic gaps in medical care.
During the event, participants were shown the electronic data collection system from maternity hospitals, regional institutions, and healthcare organizations in Bishkek and Osh. Interregional collaboration and the use of analytical data to improve public policy and practice in maternal health were also discussed.
It is noted that system is a national system for collecting, analyzing, and responding to cases of severe maternal complications, including critical conditions in which women were on the verge of death were saved thanks to timely medical care. The system aims to reduce preventable maternal morbidity and mortality, improve the quality of medical care, and develop data-driven decision-making mechanisms.
The National System for Obstetric Surveillance and Response to Severe Maternal Complications was developed with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Kyrgyzstan as part of the WHO "Behind the Numbers" approach.
