Health ministers of SCO member states gather in Bishkek

Bishkek, April 20, 2026. /Kabar/. The 9th meeting of health ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states, chaired by Kyrgyzstan, began in Bishkek today.

According to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health, the event is being attended by Deputy Speaker of the Zhogorku Kenesh (Parliament), Jyldyz Taalaibek Kyzy; SCO Deputy Secretary-General, Sohail Khan ; WHO Regional Director for Europe, Hans Kluge; representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as delegations of SCO member states led by ministers and deputy ministers.

In her speech, Jyldyz Taalaibek Kyzy noted that Kyrgyzstan is paying special attention to reforming the healthcare sector, including developing primary health care, strengthening human resources, improving infrastructure, and implementing digital solutions. "The Kyrgyz Parliament is also involved. Jogorku Kenesh, as the legislative body, develops and adopts bills aimed at improving the social lives of our citizens. "In particular, initiatives aimed at improving public health and disease prevention are supported," she said.

Kyrgyz Minister of Health Damir Osmonov noted that for Kyrgyzstan, the SCO chairmanship is not only a great honor but also a significant responsibility for shaping a practical agenda that addresses modern healthcare challenges. "Today, when the world faces new epidemiological threats, climate change, and human resource challenges, our cooperation is especially in demand. I am confident that through joint efforts, we can strengthen the resilience of healthcare systems, expand digital solutions, and ensure the health of our people," Osmonov emphasized.

The meeting will also discuss key areas of healthcare development, including public policy on prevention and public health management, treatment organization and the sustainability of healthcare systems, and the digital transformation of the industry.

Following the meeting, it is expected that joint approaches and further development of cooperation among SCO member states in healthcare will be developed.
