Japan to allocate $4 mln to Kyrgyzstan for transport infrastructure

Bishkek, Aug. 17, 2026 /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan and Japan signed grant agreements for the development of transport infrastructure, the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

According to the ministry, the signing ceremony of the Exchange Notes and the Grant Agreement took place on Friday between the Government of Kyrgyzstan, represented by Finance Minister Ruslan Suinaliev, and the Government of Japan, represented by Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Eri Arfiya.

The total grant support is 533 million Japanese yen (approximately 4 million US dollars).

The funds will be used to purchase road equipment, which will improve the technical capabilities and efficiency of development and modernization of Kyrgyzstan's transport infrastructure.

This new grant support from Japan will further strengthen Kyrgyzstan's technical base and improve the efficiency of infrastructure projects.

During the meeting, the Kyrgyz side expressed gratitude to the government and people of Japan, as well as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for their long-standing support of the country's socioeconomic development.

The parties also discussed promising areas for further cooperation, including projects in healthcare, energy, small and medium-sized business support, urban transportation, and digitalization.

Special attention was paid to the JDS program, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in Kyrgyzstan in 2026. During this period, more than 300 Kyrgyz civil servants have had the opportunity to study at leading Japanese universities.
