Kulubaev declares 2025 landmark year for foreign policy

Bishkek, Jan. 23, 2026. /Kabar/. Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev delivered a speech at the traditional New Year's reception for the diplomatic corps, during which he summarized the country's foreign policy activities over the past year and outlined key priorities for the coming period.

According to the minister, 2025 has been a dynamic year for Kyrgyz diplomacy, filled with significant events. He identified the final legal formalization of the state border between Kyrgyzstan and the Republic of Tajikistan as a key event. Jeenbek Kulubaev emphasized that this event is of historic significance not only for Central Asia but international community as a whole, serving as a unique example of the transformation of area of ​​interstate tension into area of ​​friendship and good-neighborliness, significantly strengthening stability and security in Fergana Valley.

Minister also noted Kyrgyzstan's consistent commitment to openness. In 2025, the number of countries with which the republic maintains diplomatic relations increased from 172 to 185. Significant step was the expansion of cooperation with the African continent, with the opening of Kyrgyzstan's first embassy in Africa, in Addis Ababa, home to the African Union headquarters. Furthermore, Kyrgyz Republic has established embassy in Egypt, with the appointment of ambassador expected soon.

Speaking about the scale of the work accomplished, Jeenbek Kulubaev reported that 190 high-level and summit meetings were held during the year, and 633 international treaties and documents were signed. Kyrgyzstan has actively participated in shaping and implementing the global and regional international agenda, successfully chairing the Organization of Turkic States and the Collective Security Treaty Organization, as well as serving as a member of the UN Human Rights Council. The promotion of the "Five Years of Action for Mountain Regions Development" initiative for 2023-2027 was particularly noted.

He emphasized that other initiatives by Kyrgyzstan have also received broad international response, including the country's election to the UNESCO Executive Board and the unanimous adoption of the UN General Assembly resolution declaring September 22 as International Nomadic Heritage Day, recognizing the cultural and intellectual contribution of the Kyrgyz people to the global community.
