Bishkek, May 22, 2026. /Kabar/. Today's event is of great importance, as we have invited leading transplant surgeons from at least 10 countries to Bishkek and are holding an international symposium on organ transplantation. Damir Osmonov, Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan said.

According to him, the significance of the symposium summarizes the work done so far and demonstrates the current state of the field, serving as a key event for further international cooperation.

Damir Osmonov also noted that in 2023, kidney transplants began to be performed free of charge. To date, 55 kidney transplants have been performed free of charge. Of these, 42 were performed at the National Center for Maternal and Child Health, and 13 at the Kyrgyz-Turkish Friendship Hospital.

"It is worth emphasizing that the kidney transplants at the National Center for Maternal and Child Health were performed by Kyrgyz surgeons. This is a significant achievement. In total, we have performed 105 transplants to date. "Regarding such a complex and difficult surgical procedure as a liver transplant, the fifth operation has already been performed," he said.

The minister also added that previously, the number of citizens traveling abroad for transplants exceeded 1,000 people, but in the future, the plan is to operate on most of them within the country, with a special emphasis on providing high-tech medical care.

Furthermore, the minister noted that physician training is the most important issue. There are excellent surgeons who want to perform precisely these complex surgeries and are ready to study both here and abroad, gain experience, and then continue this challenging work in Kyrgyzstan according to international standards.

As a reminder, international symposium on organ donation and transplantation is taking place in Bishkek today, with leading specialists from Kyrgyzstan, Turkiye, the United States, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Jordan, Syria, and other countries participating.
