Bishkek, July 13, 2026. /Kabar/. Speaker Marlen Mamataliev met with Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea and head of the Korea-Kyrgyzstan parliamentary friendship group, Park Dok-heum.
The meeting was also attended by Rakhat Zhunushbaeva, deputy head of the parliamentary friendship group for cooperation with South Korea. During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of Kyrgyz-Korean cooperation and the strengthening of interparliamentary ties.
Marlen Mamataliev noted that next year will mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kyrgyzstan and South Korea.
"Over the years, our countries have built relations based on friendship and mutual trust. Kyrgyz-Korean cooperation has been particularly active in recent years, consistently expanding in all areas. As a result, South Korea has become one of Kyrgyzstan's reliable and priority partners in the Asia-Pacific region," he emphasized.
Trade and economic cooperation were also discussed during the meeting. The parties noted the importance of maximizing the existing potential in this area.
Furthermore, the speaker emphasized that the Central Asia-Republic of Korea summits are successfully held and serve as an important platform for taking regional and bilateral cooperation to a qualitatively new level.
Marlen Mamataliev also noted the significant role of parliaments in implementing the agreements reached between the two countries, emphasizing that interaction between the legislative bodies of the two countries has noticeably intensified in recent years.
"The parliamentary friendship groups have been particularly fruitful, having managed to implement numerous joint projects. Such activities not only strengthen interparliamentary ties but also make a significant contribution to the development of cooperation between our countries," said Mamataliev, sharing a number of initiatives for further deepening cooperation.
Specifically, he proposed creating a Kyrgyz-Korean Development Fund to expand economic cooperation and exploring the possibility of allocating special quotas in education.
In turn, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea Park Deok-heum expressed confidence that the current visit will provide additional impetus not only for strengthening interparliamentary ties but also for the further development of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Park Deok-heum emphasized South Korea's interest in expanding cooperation with Kyrgyzstan in all areas.
"We have many opportunities. By fully utilizing them, we will be able to take Kyrgyz-Korean relations to a new level. This is our main goal," the Deputy Speaker noted.
Members of the Korean delegation also shared their proposals for further deepening cooperation, emphasizing the need for joint work in education, innovative technologies, and energy.
Marlen Mamataliev, in turn, noted that this meeting should not be viewed simply as an opportunity to exchange opinions. He stated that appropriate work will be organized for each of the initiatives voiced.
At the end of the meeting, Marlen Mamataliev briefed Park Deok-heum and the delegation members on the activities of Jogorku Kenesh and demonstrated the ongoing work on digitalization of parliament.
