Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan to develop transit trade

Bishkek, Aug. 20, 2026. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan are preparing an agreement to develop transit trade, and its signing is planned for September 2. Kasym Zhumashov, foreign relations specialist of Ministry of Economy and Commerce told live on Birinchi Radio.

According to him, the agreement aimed to increase mutual trade between the two countries.

"Due to certain issues arising in the field of logistics, we are currently preparing an agreement on transit trade for September 2. We believe that after the signing of this document, mutual trade will also increase," Zhumashov said. Diplomatic relations between Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan were established in 1992. In recent years, the work of the intergovernmental commission has intensified, with business forums held within its framework.

"In 2025, trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $16 million. From January to May 2026, this figure reached $5.2 million. The two sides signed a memorandum to increase trade turnover between the countries to $200 million by 2030. Work is currently underway to implement this memorandum," he said.

Furthermore, during the official visit of the Kyrgyz President to Pakistan, 17 documents were signed on investment, tourism, and other areas. Work is currently underway to implement the agreements contained in these documents.

The expert noted that Pakistan's seaports are of particular importance to Kyrgyzstan, as they provide access to global ocean and sea routes.

Let us recall that the last state visit of President Sadyr Zhaparov to Pakistan took place on December 3–4, 2025.
