Bishkek, July 14, 2026. /Kabar/. Kyrgyz Minister of Economy and Commerce Bakyt Sydykov is participating in the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), which is taking place at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

According to the ministry, speaking during the ministerial segment of the Forum, the head of the Kyrgyz delegation noted that ten years after the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the international community faces new global challenges, including climate change, armed conflicts, disruptions in global supply chains, and technological inequality.

In this regard, the minister emphasized that today it is necessary not only to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals but also to preserve the results already achieved.

Bakyt Sydykov paid special attention to the sustainable development of mountainous states. He noted that for countries like Kyrgyzstan, climate change is not a threat of the future, but a reality of today. Glacier retreat poses serious risks to water security, food supplies, and energy systems far beyond mountain regions.

"Mountains are not only among the first victims of climate change, but they must also be part of the solution to this global problem," the minister emphasized.

In this regard, he recalled that in 2027, Kyrgyzstan will host the Second Global Mountain Summit "Bishkek+25" and invited UN member states and international partners to join in developing practical cooperation for the sustainable development of mountain regions.

During his speech, he presented Kyrgyzstan's achievements in socio-economic development. According to him, between 2021 and 2025, the country's poverty rate decreased from 33 to 24 percent, and average annual economic growth was approximately 10 percent.

The minister emphasized that sustainable development should be assessed primarily by its contribution to improving the quality of life of citizens, expanding their opportunities, and creating conditions for the well-being of each individual.

Bakyt Sydykov noted that Kyrgyzstan's election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028 is a testament to the international community's high level of trust in the country and recognition of its consistent commitment to the principles of multilateral cooperation.

He reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan's readiness to continue to promote the strengthening of international partnerships, the advancement of preventive diplomacy, the peaceful resolution of disputes, and the protection of the interests of developing countries, including landlocked and mountainous states.
