Kyrgyzstan promotes Mountain Health initiative at World Health Assembly

Bishkek, May 18, 2026. /Kabar/. As part of the 79th session of the World Health Assembly, Health Minister Damir Osmonov participated in a meeting of Central Asian ministers.

According to the ministry, he met with Hans Kluge, Director of the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe. The parties discussed the second Roadmap for Health and Well-being in Central Asia for 2026–2030.

According to the minister, once officially approved, the document will become a key program for regional cooperation in healthcare.

In his speech, Osmonov noted that the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and the rise in emergencies and cross-border threats require strengthened coordination between Central Asian countries.

Particular attention was paid to climate and health issues. Kyrgyzstan presented the international "Health in Mountains" initiative, promoted as part of the global mountain agenda initiated by the country's president.

It was also noted that the country is preparing for the Second Bishkek Global Mountain Summit "Bishkek+25," which will be held in 2027.

Furthermore, the minister announced that Kyrgyzstan is undergoing the process of classifying the first National Emergency Medical Team in Central Asia adapted for work in mountainous areas.

The 79th World Health Assembly is being held from May 17 to 23 in Geneva.
