Kyrgyzstan takes part in ministerial meeting in Luxembourg

Bishkek, Oct. 21, 2025 /Kabar/. High-level ministerial meeting on "Advancing the Interregional Connectivity Agenda" was held in Luxembourg on October 20, 2025, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

The meeting was attended by Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission; Commissioners Josef Sikela and Marta Kos; foreign ministers and representatives of 27 EU Member States; five Central Asian countries; Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, Moldova, and Ukraine.

The Kyrgyz delegation was led by Meder Abakirov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic. In his speech, Abakirov noted the importance of strengthening trust and mutually beneficial partnership between the European Union and Central Asia, based on mutual respect and consideration of the interests of both parties. He emphasized the importance of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the EU, signed in 2024, expressing gratitude for the support for its ratification process.

Kyrgyz Deputy Foreign Minister outlined priority areas of cooperation, including the development of transport and energy connectivity, digitalization, trade and economic cooperation, and civil aviation reform. He also expressed readiness to deepen partnerships in the areas of critical raw materials and green energy.

Kyrgyz side reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling its international obligations and its open position on sanctions policy, noting the importance and readiness of the Kyrgyz Republic for a constructive and mutually beneficial dialogue with the European Union.

Bilateral meetings between Meder Abakirov and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, European Commissioners Josef Sikela and Marta Kos, and EU Special Representative for Central Asia Eduards Stiprais were also held on the sidelines of the event. During the talks, they discussed issues related to the ratification of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, the practical implementation of the signed memorandums on the construction of the Kambarata-1 Hydroelectric Power Plant, reforms in the water and transport sectors, as well as measures to strengthen political dialogue and enhance regional security resilience.

The Kyrgyz side expressed gratitude to the European Union for its support of the country's socioeconomic reforms and sustainable development, emphasizing its readiness to further advance the strategic partnership in a spirit of mutual trust and respect.

Bilateral meetings with the heads of foreign affairs of Portugal, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Finland, Slovakia, Cyprus, Hungary, and Luxembourg were also held as part of the event.
