Bishkek, Dec. 26, 2025. /Kabar/. Cabinet of Ministers has extended the 2026 New Year holidays until January 12.
Ministry of Labor previously proposed moving the workdays of January 8 and 9, 2026, to other Saturdays—February 7 and April 25, respectively. Ministry noted that the project was developed to allow workers more efficiently use holidays and weekends, as well as to create favorable social and economic conditions at the beginning of the year.
According to the ministry, extending the holidays is intended to address several issues at once:
— reduce the incidence of seasonal illnesses, which traditionally increase in the first weeks of January;
— ensure opportunities for parents and children to spend time together, given that the 2026 school winter holidays end on January 12;
— stimulate domestic tourism and support small and medium-sized businesses during the peak winter season;
— reduce the load on the power grid and utility infrastructure in the context of winter electricity shortages.
