Massive urban transformation continues in Bishkek

Bishkek, Aug. 19, 2026 /Kabar/. Bishkek city is facing number of major investment and infrastructure projects, aimed at modernizing the city's infrastructure, developing the transportation system, improving the urban environment, and creating new jobs.

The projects include the development of the street and road network and the construction of transport interchanges. The "Bishkek Road Network Development (Phase 3)" and "Bishkek Interchanges" projects include the reconstruction of Kurmanjan Datka Street and the construction of three interchanges. Grant funding for these projects totals $32.6 million. Implementation of these projects will improve the city's transport connectivity and increase the capacity of certain sections of the road network.

One significant investment project is a solid waste-based energy generation plant. The investment totals $95 million. The plant is designed to process up to 1,000 tons of waste per day, with the potential to expand to 1,200 tons and generate up to 30 MW of electricity. To date, 80 jobs have been created. In July 2026, the groundbreaking ceremony for the second phase of the project took place, which includes the construction of an additional facility with a capacity of up to 2,000 tons of waste per day.

A $56 million investment is being implemented as part of a public-private partnership to reconstruct and modernize the city's wastewater treatment facilities. Upon completion, the total sewage treatment capacity will reach up to 500,000 cubic meters per day.

Investment projects such as the construction of a multifunctional complex on the site of the former Ak-Kula Hippodrome, with an investment volume of over $300 million, are being implemented in the capital. Construction and improvement work has already begun.

The Bishkek City multifunctional complex project, implemented jointly with Turan City, continues. The investment volume is $300 million. The project includes the creation of modern urban and public infrastructure.

The Optima residential complex project, with an investment volume of 1 billion 200 million soms, has been developed. The project includes the creation of residential buildings, a park, recreation areas, and educational and cultural infrastructure.

Two tennis complex reconstruction projects are being implemented in Bishkek as part of a public-private partnership. The total investment volume exceeds 440 million soms. The projects are aimed at creating modern sports infrastructure, developing mass and professional sports, and expanding opportunities for physical education.

It is noted that the implementation of investment projects will help attract capital to the capital's economy, develop transport and utilities infrastructure, introduce modern technologies, and create new public spaces and additional jobs. A significant portion of the work involves the involvement of Kyrgyz citizens, creating additional employment opportunities.
