Bishkek, July 4, 2025. /Kabar/. The 17th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (OEC) is being held in Khankendi city of Azerbaijan on July 3-4. The theme of the summit is “A New Vision for an ECO for a Reliable and Climate-Resilient Future.” The event is attended by the heads of state and government of the participating countries of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkiye and Turkmenistan. Participants discuss current issues on the organization's agenda, including measures taken by member states to prevent climate change.

Doctor of Economics Gulnaz Supaeva told the Kabar Agency that the implementation of joint projects is a necessary condition for achieving climate goals.

According to her, the inclusion of climate change in the summit agenda and the discussion of proposals from participating countries is of great importance.

"In recent years, the organization's member countries have paid special attention to regional development through joint cooperation. They are taking steps not only in the area of economic ties, but also in the implementation of a number of projects in energy, transport, and agriculture. The current summit also focuses on energy cooperation. In particular, special attention is paid to the development of renewable energy with environmental sustainability and ensuring energy security in the region. Issues of sustainable regional development, combating climate change, and environmental stability are also raised," she noted.

Gulnaz Supaeva added that Kyrgyzstan actively proposes its initiatives in the international arena in connection with climate change and prioritizes their implementation.

“In particular, a number of Kyrgyzstan’s initiatives to protect mountain ecosystems have received support from the international community. Our country emphasizes the need to pay attention to the melting of glaciers as one of the serious consequences of climate change and raises the issue of supporting mountain states. Emphasis is also placed on the application of experience in developing a green economy and using the potential of renewable energy sources,” the economist said.
