Bishkek, April 9, 2025. /Kabar/. The Research Institute Botanical Garden named after Gareev in Bishkek will hold the annual Tulip Festival.
According to the organizers, the event will be held on April 20.
The Wild Tulip Festival in Kyrgyzstan is a significant event that draws attention to rare and endangered tulip species growing in Kyrgyzstan. In recent years, there has been growing interest in studying wild tulips around the world, including in the region. Wild tulip species are important for the history and culture of Central Asia, since most modern varieties originated from these regions.
However, scientists are concerned about the disappearance of rare tulip species due to climate change, urbanization and human activity. Therefore, the annual festival attracts the attention of scientists, ecologists, and local residents to the problem of the disappearance of wild tulips. This year the festival will be dedicated to the memory of Corresponding Member, Doctor of Biological Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic Kaiyrkul Tunkatarovich Shalpykov.
