Bishkek, Nov. 20, 2025. /Kabar/. Unlicensed and right-hand drive taxis will be prohibited from operating in Kyrgyzstan starting December 1, the Main Directorate for Road Safety reported.
According to the agency, taxi services will undergo license checks beginning on that date, and right-hand drive vehicles will no longer be allowed to operate as taxis under current legislation.
According to 2024 data, right-hand drive vehicles were involved in 1,506 traffic accidents, resulting in 143 deaths and more than 2,200 injuries. This is cited as one of the reasons for restricting their use in taxi services.
The Main Directorate for Road Safety also announced that large-scale inspections will be carried out until December 1 to identify violations, emphasizing that the main goal is to ensure passenger safety.
To obtain a license, a driver must pass a medical examination, the vehicle must be technically sound, and the transportation must be conducted through officially registered companies.
