Bishkek, June 4, 2026. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan's election as a non-permanent member of UN Security Council is huge foreign policy success in the history of sovereign country. Political expert Sheradil Baktygulov told Kabar.

He noted that Kyrgyzstan was able to achieve this great success thanks to the foreign policy of President Sadyr Zhaparov.

"Receiving 142 votes out of 191 truly demonstrates Kyrgyzstan's positive image on the international stage, as many countries have expressed confidence in our country's contribution to global security. This is considered a major diplomatic victory, especially for a state like Kyrgyzstan, which does not possess significant economic or military power," he said.

The political expert also listed the specific opportunities Kyrgyzstan will receive as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council:

  • Security Council makes decisions related to peace and security worldwide. As a non-permanent member, Kyrgyzstan will have the opportunity to influence the global agenda.
  • Receiving 142 votes out of 191 is an indicator of the international community's trust in Kyrgyzstan. This will further increase Kyrgyzstan's political clout.
  • Access to development projects. Representation on the Security Council will allow Kyrgyzstan to receive greater support from international financial institutions and donor countries.
  • Kyrgyzstan will be able to raise important issues such as regional security, counterterrorism, and climate change at global level.
  • Working within UN mechanisms will provide Kyrgyz diplomats with valuable experience, which will enhance the effectiveness of the state's foreign policy in long term.
