Bishkek, Jan. 16,2026. /Kabar/. In Paris, the Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan to UNESCO, Sadyk Sher-Niyaz, met with the Director-General of UNESCO, Khaled Al-Anani, Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.
During the meeting, it was noted that Kyrgyzstan, in order to actively contribute to the implementation of the organization's priority areas, nominated its candidacy for membership in the Executive Board, the governing body of UNESCO, and was elected for 2025-2029.
It was also noted that Kyrgyzstan has achieved significant success in ensuring sustainable development due to two key factors - political stability and economic development, which will allow this country to set ambitious goals. Priority areas include adaptation to climate change, preservation of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, poverty reduction, and development of the national creative industry.
In turn, UNESCO Director-General Khaled Al-Anani highly appreciated the active role of Kyrgyzstan in the organization's activities, including its contribution to the promotion of cultural projects. In this context, in response to the Kyrgyz side's appeals, he expressed his readiness to consider granting UNESCO patronage to two events of the Kyrgyz Republic - the VI World Nomad Games and the Chingiz Aitmatov Issyk-Kul International Forum.
As a result of the meeting, the parties expressed confidence in further expanding practical cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and UNESCO, in particular, in implementing new joint projects.
