Bishkek, June 23, 2026 /Kabar/. As of today, as part of the demarcation of the state border with Uzbekistan, two settlements, along with their residents (approximately 2,500 people), previously part of Uzbekistan, have become part of Kyrgyz Republic, presidential press secretary Askat Alagozov informs.
According to him, these are the villages of Chongara and Tash-Tobo, which were previously part of the Fergana region of Uzbekistan. Ethnic Kyrgyz live in these settlements.
"Now registration procedures will be conducted in these villages, after which their residents will be granted Kyrgyz citizenship.
In exchange for these settlements, the Kyrgyz side transferred land plots of equal size to Uzbekistan in the border zone.
Furthermore, for the construction of village roads from Sai to Tayan, an exchange of equal land plots totaling 236 hectares was carried out.
The residents of Batken region will be able to travel from Aidarken to Batken via the villages of Sai and Tayan, covering approximately 55 kilometers instead of the current 225 kilometers of bypass," he explained.
Furthermore, as Alagozov noted, proposal was made to the fraternal Kazakh side to exchange equal land plots for an 800-meter stretch of road near Tokmok city.
"The implementation of this project will create a toll highway approximately 150 kilometers long, from Almatinskaya street to the city of Kemin," the presidential press secretary emphasized.
He added that such issues should not become the subject of political speculation.
