Bishkek, Jan. 16, 2026 /Kabar/. Seventeen people, including four children, were poisoned on January 15 after consuming food at the Daamduu fast food outlet in Bishkek, the Department of Disease Prevention and State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance under the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
According to the department, 13 people were hospitalized and are receiving inpatient treatment, while four others are being treated on an outpatient basis.
The first symptoms of poisoning appeared at different times on January 15, prompting the victims to seek medical assistance at the Republican Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital. All patients received the necessary medical care, and clinical samples were collected for laboratory testing.
Epidemiological data indicate that all affected individuals consumed shawarma purchased at the Daamduu fast food outlet on January 15, 2026.
Specialists from the Bishkek Center for State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance conducted an unscheduled inspection of the food service establishment. Samples of food ingredients, swabs from kitchen equipment and utensils, as well as leftover ready-to-eat products were collected for laboratory analysis. In addition, café staff underwent unannounced screening for carriers of intestinal infections.
The fast food outlet has been closed and sealed.
The epidemiological investigation is ongoing.
