Bishkek. Dec. 10, 2025. /Kabar/. In recent years, Bishkek mayors office has been implementing a number of major projects to improve public transportation. New buses are currently being purchased, and additional lines are being opened on certain streets. These measures are aimed at improving passenger mobility within the city and strengthening trust in public transportation. Furthermore, emphasis is being placed on the use of electric buses and the introduction of environmentally friendly modes of transport. The new buses are being distributed along the busiest routes, creating comfortable conditions for city residents.
At the same time, projects such as driver retraining, the construction of bus parking areas and service centers, and road repairs are being implemented. All of these efforts are aimed at ensuring safe and convenient transportation for city residents.
According to the Bishkek City Hall, 124 Golden Dragon buses powered by natural gas were delivered to the capital in January 2024 under an agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
In addition, 17 12-meter buses manufactured by Anadolu Isuzu Otomotiv Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. were purchased through the German Development Bank. They were assigned to express route No. 153.

Purchased by year:
2022 — 120 buses financed by the local budget;
2023 — 449 buses financed by the national budget;
2024 — 500 buses financed by the national budget;
Beginning of 2025 — an additional 68 modern buses through the German Development Bank.
Furthermore, as part of joint project with the Asian Development Bank, Bishkek received 120 environmentally friendly electric buses in 2025.

This year, 95 Yutong buses are also being delivered under the Green City project.

Thus, Bishkek currently has 1,352 buses and 120 electric buses. As part of the administrative-territorial reform, the acquisition of 300 compact buses, 7-8 meters long, to serve newly annexed territories is being considered.
As Bishkek City Council Deputy Rysbai Amatov told the Kabar news agency, new large buses are being purchased to replace old minibuses, significantly improving the environmental situation.

"Previously, the city had many small minibuses running on gasoline and diesel. Now we are gradually switching to modern, environmentally friendly, and comfortable large buses. There has been significant progress in public transportation. New lines are opening, making it easier for city residents to get around. However, some areas still experience a shortage of transportation, and these issues need to be addressed. Citizen feedback has been positive. The new buses are convenient for young people, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with disabilities. This work must continue," he noted.
While ensuring comfort for city residents, the mayor's office is also addressing environmental issues. New buses are selected with environmental requirements in mind. Buses and electric buses help reduce air pollution in the city.
According to environmentalist Anara Sultangazieva, the introduction of electric buses is a sign of the times and a step toward solving Bishkek's winter smog problem.

"Four years ago, when I was in Almaty, I admired the modern bus stops and electric buses. Now I'm glad that similar changes are happening here too. Electric buses have many advantages, they're mobile, fast, convenient, and safe. Modern electric buses are equipped with comfortable air conditioning, are completely eco-friendly, and have no odor or emissions. Given the smog problem, city residents are switching to electric vehicles themselves. It's good that the government is purchasing electric buses," she noted.
The delivery of new buses to Bishkek is the result of proactive efforts by the mayor's office. To provide city residents with convenient, safe, and modern public transportation, the mayor's office continues to implement major projects.
