Bishkek, May 4, 2026. /Kabar/. On April 28-30, the next round of discussions on the draft intergovernmental agreement on the construction of the Kambar-Ata-1 hydroelectric power station was held in Tashkent with the participation of delegations from relevant state bodies and organizations of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the participants noted that this project is important and economically beneficial for all parties. It was also noted that, in addition to having a multiplier effect on the development of the economies of the countries, it will contribute to strengthening friendly relations between peoples.
The hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 1880 MW will play an important role in increasing the country's energy potential and ensuring the stability of the energy system in the region.
During the meeting, the parties discussed in detail all articles of the draft agreement. They exchanged views on the provisions of the document that had not been agreed upon and developed constructively. Various approaches based on the principles of mutual respect and finding acceptable solutions were proposed. The agenda for further negotiations was also set.
It was especially noted that this project is of strategic importance for Kyrgyzstan in strengthening energy independence and developing "green" energy. Representatives of the World Bank participated in the meeting as observers and confirmed the importance of international partnership in promoting the project.
As a result of the talks, the parties expressed their readiness to continue joint work. In the end, they agreed to maintain a constructive dialogue and fully prepare a draft agreement.
