Bishkek, July 14, 2025. /Kabar/. Tourism is one of the important sectors of the economy. This sphere brings income to the state, creates jobs and contributes to the development of infrastructure, Director of the Tourism Department under the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic Erdenet Kasymov told Kabar Agency.
He said that tourism makes a significant contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) of all countries in the world.
“That is why serious measures are also being taken in Kyrgyzstan to develop this industry. We have started implementing a major Ala-Too Resort project. This project will give an impetus to the socio-economic situation of both local areas and the country as a whole. Thanks to such projects, jobs are created. According to world practice, one tourist provides three jobs. Tax revenues also increase and infrastructure improves. The statistics show that more than 8.5 million tourists arrived in Kyrgyzstan by the end of 2024. This year we plan to reach 10 million vacationers. Therefore, further growth of the above indicators is expected,” said Erdenet Kasymov.
Tourism expert Azamat Zhamankulov noted that today almost 1 billion soms are circulating in the tourism industry of Kyrgyzstan.
“Export revenues from abroad amount to about 250 million dollars. This money is distributed between airport services, taxis, restaurants, travel companies, guides, recreation areas. Tourism attracts additional funds from abroad to the economy. For example, one tourist spends about 200-250 dollars per day in Kyrgyzstan. The more tourists come, the more money comes into the economy. In my opinion, if we invest in the development of infrastructure and the image of tourism, using such potential, tourism can become a major sector of the economy,” said Azamat Zhamankulov.
He also emphasized the importance of paying special attention to tourist facilities, their reconstruction and construction of new ones.
“Thanks to large projects such as Ala-Too Resort, investments come to Kyrgyzstan. The more actively tourism develops, the more investors want to invest and make a profit. This project will become a locomotive that pulls many other projects along with it. With the increase in the flow of vacationers, cash receipts grow. All this inevitably has a positive impact on the country's economy,” the expert noted.
