Bishkek, Dec. 24, 2025. /Kabar/. Shamshy small hydroelectric power plant (SHPP) has been commissioned in Chui Oblast. Construction was completed in record time with financial support from the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund, Artem Novikov, Chairman of the Board of the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund informs.

According to him, a year ago, in October 2024, financing agreement for the project was signed for $1 million, and the plant has already begun generating electricity.

The new 1.7-megawatt plant will generate approximately 10 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, which will cover 12% of the electricity needs of the Chui district. The commissioned facility is one of 16 power generation projects being implemented by the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund, with a total capacity of approximately 600 megawatts and the production of over 1.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. This is another step toward ensuring the energy security of the Kyrgyz Republic.

"Support for small hydropower projects is a fundamental element in achieving the objectives set by President Sadyr Zhaparov to modernize and expand the energy sector and is fully consistent with the National Development Strategy of Kyrgyzstan until 2030. The Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund will continue its systematic work to strengthen the country's energy independence," Novikov emphasized.
